Invention of the Electric Lightbulb
Thomas Edison experimented with thousands of different filaments for light bulbs. He wanted to find a material that allowed the bulb to glow well and also be long-lasting. In 1878, Edison found that a carbon filament in an oxygen-free bulb glowed well, and it didn't burn up for over 40 hours. He eventually produced a bulb that could glow for over 1500 hours.
